The BR 01 was designed by Robert Garbe, a renowned locomotive engineer, and the first locomotives were built in the 1920s. The design was refined over the years, resulting in several subtypes. The BR 01 had a 4-6-2 wheel arrangement, which is often referred to as the “Pacific” type. This arrangement consisted of four leading wheels, six driving wheels, and two trailing wheels. These locomotives were known for their speed and power. They were capable of reaching speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (80 miles per hour) and were used for high-speed express passenger trains.
