They had a top speed of around 32 knots and a range of up to 8,000 nautical miles. During World War II, both ships saw action in a number of naval engagements. The Leipzig was sunk in the Battle of the Barents Sea in 1942, while the Nürnberg was sunk by Allied forces in the final days of the war in Europe.
